For the
benefit of the genuine passengers who plan their journey at short notice, a Tatkal Scheme for reservation has been introduced on Indian
Railways. This facility provides confirmed accommodation to the needy
passengers on payment of nominal premium on first come first serve basis. The
premium to be paid for getting reservations against Tatkal
Quota is as under:

As per
Railway Board’s instructions there will be Tatkal
quota in each train (except passenger trains) in 2 A/C, 3 A/C, AC, Sleeper Class.
2 A = 4
berths
3 A = 6
berths
AC class = 6 seats
SL class =
10% of accommodation or one coach whichever is less. No Identity card is necessary.
The facility
of change of name is not permitted on bookings made under Tatkal
Scheme.
No refund
will be permissible on the reservation made under Tatkal
scheme.
The reservation under this scheme shall be available only upto the time of preparation of charts.
